Simple yet Wonderful Celebration of 53rd Monthsary

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

A simple celebration of our 53rd monthsary is more than enough. Actually early in the morning, deardear has given me a surprise by leaving a nice big card in the room's tv. Its a very sweet card indeed with some "hidden" messages. Haha.. Thank you deardear...

After the busy morning, I took the whole afternoon to train baby to be IT savy like his papa... Look at the result.. Haha...

We had our dinner and a short stroll. Life is just so simple.. A stroll with deardear and baby Caden after dinner can be such a blissful moment... Took some pic of baby Caden when he woke up during the stroll.. Look at his 无影脚. Gosh, he looks so funny..

Heat Rashes...

Monday, July 7, 2008

Gosh.. Baby is getting all the pimples on his face.. According to mummy, its called heat rashes. Its like an outbreak of all the heatiness in his body.. Hopefully he will get well soon after this outbreak.. He looks very mature with all the pimples on his face. And though he is sick.. This son of mine still loves to play, scream and laugh.. Sometimes I really dunno how to deal with him. Just had an epsiode of him screaming for help as I have to force him to take his medicine which he dislike. Tell me how??????? But no one to help him as I am alone with him in Eunos today and maybe the rest of the week... Haha.. But I still enjoy every moment spent with him.. Esp when he smiled at me..

Aunt Mei Jun's Birthday Celebration

Sunday, July 6, 2008

Its another stay-home sunday as Caden baby has not fully recovered yet. He is still coughing and sneezing and as for me, I am still as sick and tired as ever esp this time my grandaunt is here too. Haha..

Luckily deardear was very understanding. Yesterday he woke up at 6 am to entertain and feed baby Caden till 8 am when I woke up. The medicine is making me very sleepy though I remembered requesting for a non drowsy one. Maybe my body is fighting the virus inside me thus I am extremely tired. Its a fierce battle I guess.. Deardear even took the initiative to wash baby's clothes and mop the floor. Thank you deardear..

Though this weekend we stayed at home throughout, there was some visitors - deardear's friends, Eugene & Rain, Thomas and his gf and my friends, Mei Jun and Meiling. Meiling and I had planned for a small gathering at my place today as a celebration for Mei Jun's birthday, which was on the 4th June. I ordered a cake from Awfully Chocolate and picked it up at 12 plus with deardear. Meiling arrived at my place at 1 plus with a bottle of white wine and we waited for the bday girl till 3 plus. Haha.. She thought that the meeting time is 3 pm. Gosh.. As usual the sotong Mei Jun. Anyway, had a great time to catch up with both of them. Felt really out of touch now that I am on my child care leave. Took some pics of baby waiting excitingly for them to come and the 3 beautiful ladies before savouring the cake.

Baby Caden waiting for the arrival of the aunties. Haha..

The 3 "beauties" waiting to finish the wonderful dark chocolate cake on hand. Haha..

Baby Caden posing for the wine... Haha..

Drunkard Caden...

Another visit to PD due to cough

Wednesday, July 2, 2008

Brought baby Caden to the PD again just now. Sigh.. He has not been drinking much and been coughing more. PD said that Caden's nose is not as blocked. However, his throat is sore. He mentioned that its a whole new virus this time. So he changed the medicine for Caden and put him on respirator. Luckily Caden is strong and did not cry when he was on the respirator. I am so proud of him. His medicine is Salbutamol (for coughing and wheezing) and Amxol syrup (for phlegm, clears the airway and eases cough). Poor Caden. He has more medicine to take this time. Just now he was screaming so terribly when feeding him with the medicine. So sad to see him go through all these. Get well soon baby...

Sad sad day...

This morning baby Caden woke up at 6 am coughing and sneezing. I was so worried about him. I thought he was better as he pooed yesterday (all the heatiness out) and there wasn't any coughing and sneezing too. Immediately mummy fed him with some milk and gave him the nasal drop and cough mixture. We also feed him with plenty of water. After a simple clean up, I put him back to sleep. He slept for only half an hour and woke up. Sigh.. He doesn't seems too well to me. Poor baby Caden. I regretted bringing him back to my mummy's place. If not because I have to go to Raffles Medical Centre for MOE medical review on friday, I would not have bring him back. Somemore, there are people smoking outside my mummy's place. Some reno doing in the next door. Those idiot reno workers - so inconsiderate.. Talk so loudly and smoke outside the house. Poor Caden is unable to sleep. Now I have to bring him into the room to sleep. Sigh...

早起的鸟儿有虫吃

There is a saying in chinese "早起的鸟儿有虫吃". As a result, I decided to do my card reading to baby Caden early in the morning hoping he can absorb more of what I say. In the end, i doubt he is absorbing more. Think he is more fascinated in holding the cards and putting them into his mouth. Haha... So I decided to snap some candid shots.

"Ehh...What is mama talking about?"

"Wondering what taste is this? I am so tired of my milk..."

Now I am thinking of how to cook his cereal. Correct, I am starting the rice cereal for baby Caden. Last night, deardear and I went to Paya Lebar NTUC to buy his rice cereal as we are still staying at Eunos. Baby is not feeling too well so we decided not to travel here and there. As for the rice cereal, we looked around and saw a few brands. Only Heinz and Moon Rabbit brand have rice cereal for 4 months and above. So we decided to buy the Moon Rabbit one. Its called 'Si Shen Brown Rice Powder'. Cousin Chloe is also taking the same cereal. Hopefully he is taking it well. Will update in my blog soon regarding the feeding of rice cereal.

No Rice Cereal yet...

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

After writing on my blog in the morning, I went into the motherhood forums and found out that it might be too early to let baby try rice cereal. Though its stated that the rice powder is for 4 months old and above, I am still hesitant in trying after reading the forum below.

STARTING SOLID FOODS: WHEN? WHAT? AND HOW?

Ready to open your baby's mouth to a whole new world of textures and tastes?
Is baby ready to open her mouth?
Get ready for the joys and the mess of eating solid foods.
When you begin feeding your baby solid foods you want to progress in a way that sets baby up for healthy eating habits. You are not only putting food into your baby's tummy, you are introducing lifelong attitudes about nutrition. Consider for a moment that during the first year or two you will spend more time feeding your baby than in any other interaction. You both might as well enjoy it.

WHY WAIT? 6 REASONS

Gone are the days when pressured mothers stuffed globs of cereal into the tight mouths of reluctant six-week-olds. Nowadays parents feed their baby on the timetable that is developmentally and nutritionally correct -- as determined by their baby. Don't be in a rush to start solids. Here are some good reasons for waiting.
1. Baby's intestines need to mature. The intestines are the body's filtering system, screening out potentially harmful substances and letting in healthy nutrients. In the early months, this filtering system is immature. Between four and seven months a baby's intestinal lining goes through a developmental growth spurt called closure, meaning the intestinal lining becomes more selective about what to let through. To prevent potentially-allergenic foods from entering the bloodstream, the maturing intestines secrete IgA , a protein immunoglobulin that acts like a protective paint, coating the intestines and preventing the passage of harmful allergens. In the early months, infant IgA production is low (although there is lots of IgA in human milk), and it is easier for potentially-allergenic food molecules to enter the baby's system. Once food molecules are in the blood, the immune system may produce antibodies to that food, creating a food allergy . By six to seven months of age the intestines are more mature and able to filter out more of the offending allergens. This is why it's particularly important to delay solids if there is a family history of food allergy, and especially to delay the introduction of foods to which other family members are allergic.
2. Young babies have a tongue-thrust reflex . In the first four months the tongue thrust reflex protects the infant against choking. When any unusual substance is placed on the tongue, it automatically protrudes outward rather than back. Between four and six months this reflex gradually diminishes, giving the glob of cereal a fighting chance of making it from the tongue to the tummy. Not only is the mouth-end of baby's digestive tract not ready for early solids, neither is the lower end.
3. Baby's swallowing mechanism is immature. Another reason not to rush solids is that the tongue and the swallowing mechanisms may not yet be ready to work together. Give a spoonful of food to an infant less than four months, and she will move it around randomly in her mouth, pushing some of it back into the pharynx where it is swallowed, some of it into the large spaces between the cheeks and gums, and some forward between the lips and out onto her chin. Between four and six months of age, most infants develop the ability to move the food from the front of the mouth to the back instead of letting it wallow around in the mouth and get spit out. Prior to four months of age, a baby's swallowing mechanism is designed to work with sucking, but not with chewing.
4. Baby needs to be able to sit up. In the early months, babies associate feeding with cuddling. Feeding is an intimate interaction, and babies often associate the feeding ritual with falling asleep in arms or at the breast. The change from a soft, warm breast to a cold, hard spoon may not be welcomed with an open mouth. Feeding solid foods is a less intimate and more mechanical way of delivering food. It requires baby to sit up in a highchair a skill which most babies develop between five and seven months. Holding a breastfed baby in the usual breastfeeding position may not be the best way to start introducing solids, as your baby expects to be breastfed and clicks into a "what's wrong with this picture?" mode of food rejection.
5. Young infants are not equipped to chew. Teeth seldom appear until six or seven months, giving further evidence that the young infant is designed to suck rather than to chew. In the pre-teething stage, between four and six months, babies tend to drool, and the drool that you are always wiping off baby's face is rich in enzymes, which will help digest the solid foods that are soon to come.
6. Older babies like to imitate caregivers. Around six months of age, babies like to imitate what they see. They see you spear a veggie and enjoy chewing it. They want to grab a fork and do likewise.

Sigh... I even called my PD and asked for advice. The nurses told me its ok to try on rice cereal. However, its better to wait for the PD to look at Caden first before confirming. Since I will be bringing Caden for vaccination next week, I can consult my PD about it before trying. Moreover, I also found out from my cousin in law that she started out rice cereal for Chloe on at 6 months. As a result, I gave up the idea. Lets wait and see...
